Looting London bike shops - a Leyton story
I’m sad to be writing this, but last night the Bike Shack in Leyton, their shop on Ruckholt Road was looted. The criminals stole 24 of the 29 bikes they had in stock, plus some wheels and some other pieces. They are a converted corner shop and the glass in the door was smashed and the shutter forced, which gave them enough access to steal all the bikes. I called in on my way to work this morning and by 9:30 this morning they were cleaned up and open for business. I spoke to Andrew, who works there and they are okay and the owner is insured. Everything in the workshop seems to be fine and they didn’t steal any of their tools. Direct sources on Twitter from pilotjerv, MsDionneJohnson and imkah.
It is a bit far for a local bike shop for me, but I’ll stop off and buy something soon to give them a hand with cash flow. Really sad that teenagers see bike shops as an easy target. So easy to steal thousands of pounds worth of stuff in seconds and disclaim it away as their own, much easier than a 40 inch tv. A good heavy dose of rain will help London calm down, not much forecast though. This post gives some good background to the riots.
